Gov Snyder: keeping Japan out of trade talks unless it opens up the market of car

The Administration is considering whether Japan and Asian countries have joined the nine-Party talks trade Trans-Pacific partnership, which began in early 2010.

Snyder, a Republican, and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon, both Democrats, sent a letter to President Barack Obama and u.s. Trade Representative Ron Kirk in a few days urging the Government to push for Japan

"Let the market to join (the partnership) and get preferential treatment for one-way trade potentially placing auto's current and future investment and jobs in Michigan and the US on the downside," Snyder wrote in a letter Tuesday to Obama. "Investments in component suppliers and other jobs indirectly supported by all the cars that operated in the United States, including Japan, the car will also negatively affected."

Separately, four key members of Congress on issues of trade wrote Obama on Tuesday, also questioned whether it makes sense to allow Japan to take part in the talks.
